Vulnerable

Photography is the core to my work that’s where ill capture the body and bring it to my paintings, I like working with the natural light of the day and seeing how it reacts to the form, how it hits in different ways creating shapes and shadows.
This piece is large in scale, I used oil paint and thread through this work. In any works of mine there’s always personal meaning that people can relate to.
It seems that being vulnerable is a great source to creating, Vulnerability has always been something that followed me. I wanted to express this feeling in this painting. Capturing the naked skin that’s the true feeling of vulnerability when we are at our purist, where true vulnerability exists.
The use of tread in this painting is in relation to a flow of feeling, there’s something about tread that reminds me of how we are, how it moves to rhythm to a reaction, how it moves to a touch. tread is a material that can keeps us in touch with the sensory in whatever way we use it.
The use of paint is dark toned, the back is facing towards us hidden away in feeling of being closed off. the skin has a tight look giving a sense of tense feeling of being vulnerable.

I used gesso gel to build a texture to the base leaving some of the canvas visible.

The tread is stitched in from behind the canvas. I used a pallet knife to layer on the paint. there wasn’t a reason for the colour it happened in the moment and I wasn’t going to interrupt with the happening
